ROCKFORD HILLS (WZ) – Early on the 31st of July of the Legislature passed the Business Commission Resolution with a 3-1-1 vote in favor of the Resolution, with Representative Avery voting against and Representative Callow abstaining from the vote. However at 11:23pm on the 1st of August Governor McKenzie vetoed the bill, citing that the resolution has a ‘major overreach’

As it stands there is currently no criminal charge for contempt against the House. The House does not have the authority to hold anyone in contempt for failing to appear and the assertion otherwise constitutes a major overreach in not only procedure but also in Legislation.

and that a budgeting issue in the resolution could ‘create an extremely vague and uncontrolled avenue for spending.’

As it stands there are no established spending guidelines nor budget set aside for this expenditure. This would create an extremely vague and uncontrolled avenue for spending. Allowing the House to create such spending avenues would not be in the best interest of the State and its people.

This is the first time a governor has vetoed a resolution, adding another layer onto on-going governmental battles in FOIA requests and other controversial Legislation

Questions over the power to veto a resolution are however being queried with Subsection II of the Constitution’s Legislative Powers outlining resolutions that don’t require the assent of the executive, meaning based in one interpretation of what is written, the governor has no power to veto resolutions inside the scope of resolutions outlined in Article III, Section II, Subsection II, but every right to veto resolutions outside the scope.

The State Legislature may pass Resolutions that do not require approval of the Executive; however these Resolutions are limited to…

However the executives view of the constitution is seemingly more widely accepted

If the veto stands, the legislature has the power to override a veto with a unanimous 5/5 vote in favor of overturning the veto.
