ROCKFORD HILLS, LOS SANTOS (WZL) – Attention San Andreas! The election season is returning to San Andreas as the state prepares for its seventeenth (17th) regular election. Following the legislature’s passage of House Resolution 439, the dates have officially been set for the Winter 2026 election period.

State Representatives play an important role in the operation of state government. Among their responsibilities are drafting and considering state legislation, voting on proposed laws, and weighing civil appointments, including the appointment of new judges and confirmation of members of the executive cabinet.

The Governor carries a separate but equally significant set of responsibilities. In addition to signing legislation into law, the Governor is responsible for filling various cabinet positions and working alongside those departments to support and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the state.

State Representative and Gubernatorial registration for the Winter 2026 election opened on Monday, October 1, 2026, and will close on Sunday, October 7, 2026, at 2 pm EST. All candidates must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, cannot have felony charges in the past three (3) months, must not be currently incarcerated or on parole, and must have waited one (1) month since release. See the Winter 2026 State Election Information announcement for further information.

Over the next few weeks, you will hear a lot about Ranked Choice Voting. In a typical voting system, each voter chooses their preferred candidate, and the candidate with the most votes wins. With ranked choice voting, voters have the ability to select all candidates and rank them in their most favorable order. If your first candidate doesn’t receive enough votes, your vote goes to the next candidate – this process continues until one candidate wins a majority of votes.

Ranked choice voting allows voters to have more confidence in their elected officials, as the winners have a majority of the public’s confidence. Check out this video and this video if you want to learn more about the ranked-choice voting process.
