Note: A full town hall recording can be found at the bottom of the page.

State Representative Secretary Maxine Finch and Speaker of the Legislature Becks Lawson hosted the final 8 PM town hall of the 8th Congress at Rockford Hills City Plaza. Rhylee Finke of Weazel News recorded the meeting.

Updates from the legislature and executive branch were discussed throughout the town hall. Departments in attendance were LEOs (MCD, LSPD, BCSO, SASP, SAPD), DOJ, PW, and SAMS.

Town Hall Updates:

Executive Branch: Slow month due to the holidays, making progress working with LEO for working with AI, SAFA bill has been completed and signed off on, and one department head as been nominated this month.

Legislative Branch: The legislative overhaul has made great strides throughout the term. They started with over 250 bills and now have it down to 60 bills. Unfortunately, they were not able to complete parts of the legislative overhaul that was planned, specifically medical; Becks Lawson plans to meet with the next congress to help continue the project.

SAPD: No updates.

SASP: Working towards further transparency with internal affairs- it is now mandatory for their teams to reach out directly to a person reporting to let them know that their report has been documented and is being looked into. When it is concluded, a team member will also let the reporter know the investigation has been concluded.

LSPD: No updates.

BCSO: No updates.

DOJ: More tools for lawyers; if you have not got your SABA card, reach out to a member of the Supreme Court.

MCD: If you need to contact a detective, you can come by the station and place a 311 call or through their website.

PW: Working on internal processes, mechanics struggle to find parts to maintain their fleet- possibly new vehicles if the mechanics cannot keep up. If you need anything, remember to call 211, and they’ll help get it done.

SAMS: The next hiring round begins January 15; psych will do some walk-ins and community classes in the new year.

SAFA: Not in attendance.
DOCL: Not in attendance.
SAFR: Not in attendance.
PDO: Not in attendance.
DHS: Not in attendance.
