The Billabong Cafe ★★★★☆

Del Perro, Los Santos – The Billabong Cafe is located on Bay City Avenue between Marathon and Red Desert Ave. As of right now it is set up for dining outside only, but the sweet southern woman who served me said there are plans to open up the inside at some point. I can’t wait to revisit this place once they do this; the outside alone is already beautiful. You can smell the ocean air as it’s close to the beach, and the décor is cute and not overbearing.

The menu is short and sweet, but that is all you need. Who wants to go to a place where you have to memorize a million different items or even read a menu that’s 4 pages long? Everything is priced fairly. Food is listed as $25 an item, and drinks are usually $20, except the $30 specialty Victoria Bitters. As for exclusive items only sold at this place, you can find Meat Pie, Farmers Union Iced Coffee, and the premium drink Victoria Bitters (VB). Now, I’m a sucker for coffee, so I obviously added this exclusive drink to my order. As for the VB, the wonderful woman (who I forgot to get the name of!) described it as a lager. She said you should be able to have one with your meal, and it’ll wear off before you have to drive home. Oh, and the meat pie! It’s more of a snack item, but it’ll calm you down real quick if you’re feeling stressed.

My order: 2 slices of pie (cherry), 1 slice of cake, 2 mango smoothies, 2 farmers union iced coffee

First of all, she got my order correct. You wouldn’t believe the amount of times I have gone places and they forget an item or substitute something without asking me. So thankfully my order was all correct.

I ordered a slice of pie and was informed they only had cherry, which was fine with me. I love cherry pie. The crust was flaky and buttery while the inside was warm and sweet with a touch of tart. There wasn’t too much filling, so the crust didn’t become soggy. Overall, I’d give this pie alone 4/5 stars. I do wish there were more flavors, though!

I took a few bites of the cake, which was chocolate with chocolate icing. It seemed like any old cake. Not too dry, just enough flavor without being too sweet. I wasn’t as excited about the cake as I was about the pie. 3/5 stars

The mango smoothie. Oh boy… so, she told me the mango smoothies are made fresh and I absolutely love freshly made food/drinks. I don’t know if this woman grew the mangos herself or what, but the taste alone was outstanding. It didn’t taste as if it had a bunch of added processed mango puree or sugars. The smoothie also cooled me down a bit. Since the place is located near the beach, the sun was shining right on me and I felt quite warm. Once I began drinking this delicious smoothie I cooled down right away. 5/5 stars

Now for the coffee! I love coffee but I wouldn’t call myself a connoisseur. I will just drink it at any given chance. Their iced coffee comes in a bottle. I’m assuming it is produced elsewhere and shipped to the shop. With most bottled iced coffees you might taste more dairy product and sugar than you do coffee, but not this iced coffee. It has the perfect ratio of coffee, dairy, and sugar to please your taste buds. Personally, I prefer my coffee in a cup or glass, but I’m sure they have their reasons or even a story behind it that I didn’t ask about! I’ll give it a 4/5 only because of the bottle.

Overall, if you’re looking to go somewhere near the beach with a short and sweet menu, I would definitely recommend The Billabong Cafe. The service is fantastic and the food and drinks are pretty delicious too.

Until next time ♥ Amelie
