Syring Drops Race

Tyler Syring might have been running for the people, but the people seemed more interested in running him over.

Syring hosted a meet and greet on January 2nd to introduce himself, talk about his platform, and allow people to ask him questions related to his campaign. Previously, Syring held a city manager position in a different state in addition to experience in both finance and law.

“I strive to always be learning, and will hold the values of you, the citizens, to the highest standard while enacting legislation,” Syring stated.

The platform that Syring was running on revolved around consulting with the people and being their representative. “I know how much transparency and accountability mean to everyone, I see the lack of it by the current administration. It is my mission that if I’m elected, I will fix what is broken and hold the government accountable for their actions,” Syring asserted. He wanted more representative seats and to establish a senate. He intended to work with Mount Zonah staff and reduce violence against the hospital, as well as investigate the state of the Coroner’s office and improve the death certificate process. Finally, he wanted to work with law enforcement to create an external ethics committee to review use of force incidents that happen with officers.

Syring feels strongly that the current administration is not doing a good enough job in their roles. He said, “The frivolous bills that the representatives put out now are just to play politics and look like they are simply doing something.” This particular statement seemed to rouse some of the crowd that was in attendance. When Syring opened the floor for questions, he was asked how he could see himself actually putting forth positive bills and also expanding congress at the same time. Specifically the audience wanted to know what part of the process Syring felt was inadequate and how he would change it. Syring responded, “What I think is crucial for posing bills is actually meeting with the constituents, the citizens, and seeing what their needs are. Not just putting a bill out and hoping it helps them. If I become a State Representative that is something that will be at the top of my list to meet with the people and see what their needs are, and see what they want fixed in the city and overall.” This response hit a chord with the audience when a follow-up question was asked how he knew that those things weren’t already happening. Syring did not have a good answer prepared for this and answered that he really didn’t know that it wasn’t happening.

From there the questions got more and more targeted as the people seemed to want to tear holes in Syring’s platform and stances. At one point, a citizen even appeared to be trying to trick Syring into making a mistake by asking what bills he would like to put forward that were unconstitutional. Fortunately, Syring did not fall for the ploy. Weazel News spoke with some attendees afterward to get a temperature on how people felt. “That guy is in f***ing shambles,” a man who identified himself as ‘White Tony’ stated, “My guy sounded like he was about to cry halfway through that thing. He did not know how to answer any of those questions whatsoever.”

Tyler Syring recognized that the question and answer portion of the event got away from him but still seemed confident as we spoke with him after the event. He assured Weazel News that he would take this as a learning experience and prepare greatly for future debates and town halls. “What I said is what I stand for. I’ll be elaborating more on these as the campaign goes along, really fleshing out what I believe in. It’s a very ambitious plan, and I will push as hard as I can to get everything that I promised enacted.” Unfortunately, the pressure was likely too much for Syring to handle and he subsequently dropped from the representative race.

SecuroServ was present at the event for security and stated, “We had little disruptions that affected the venue. All in all we found the venue and reception to the candidate engaging and we were happy to bring service to this candidate as well as any other candidates that will be running in this election.”
