Today’s Spotlight is on Sally’s Surf Shop, located on Paleto Blvd in Paleto Bay.  It is owned and operated solely by Sally Nailburry.  Sally’s Surf Shop sells custom-designed, hand-made surfboards with original art by Sally.

Originally from Toronto, Sally came down to San Andreas looking for a change of pace and found it in Paleto Bay.  “I kinda really like the vibes out here,”   she says, preferring the quiet beaches over the more touristy/hectic beaches in Los Santos.

Her journey into the artistic side of the business has interesting beginnings:

“Back in Toronto (Canada), I worked at my uncle’s dispensary (marijuana).  We lived above it, so we were there a lot and he had me do a lot of the package design for him… I had a lot of fun kinda working with packaging, and the kind of crazy, zany designs I’d do for various weed products.”

Sally tells that when she came down here she wasn’t sure what to do, and spent time ‘hanging around” and fishing, when someone pointed out there was a building with her name on it in town.  To hear her tell it, it seemed to be a sign, pun intended.

“Someone was like…you know, there’s a building with your, with your name on it over there.  And it was like Ah!  So we checked it out, and it was really interesting, that there was this chance…of you know I really love Paleto, and there’s this building with my name on it.”

Sally explains that she was always interested in the skateboarding/surfing scene, and mentions Wasaga Beach (Canada) with fondness throughout our conversation.  Though she admittedly can’t surf, those ‘vibes’ influenced her packaging designs.  Now with the shop, she’s not only found a new use for her art but learned the art of surfboard construction.  So a surfboard from Sally’s is truly one-of-a-kind.

Because they are customized, Sally’s surfboards can be used not just for surfing, but also as promotional items or static displays and decor, and prices range from $1,000 to $5,000, depending on the complexity of the customization.

When asked about future plans Sally expressed with much enthusiasm that she plans to implement her designs and art into beachwear.
