Several bills were discussed at Town Hall on Saturday night. As of this week, H.R. 246, The San Andreas Copyright Protections, H.R. 247, An Amendment to Criminal Code for Jail/Prison Breaks to Include Parsons and Psychiatric Hold Breakouts, and H.R. 248, which aims to modify penalties for hostage-taking and kidnapping, have been signed into law. H.R. 250, an Amendment to H.R. 151 San Andreas Board of Education Act of 2022, and H.R. 249, a Resolution to Renew Transparency in Legislation, have been proposed, with electronic vote results expected today June 18th, 2023.

Former State Representative Becks Lawson and The Collector from the Department of Human Services (DHS), confronted representatives during the meeting to address the growing concerns surrounding H.R. 246. The bill would give the Board of Education a substantial role in overseeing copyright matters. Due to such, particular interest was given to the involvement of former Governor Karmen Brown, who currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Education. Since Governor Brown had played a pivotal role in drafting this crucial legislation, they raised concerns about potential conflicts of interest and the impact on copyright contributors.

More about her involvement can be read through her press release, Unique Identifiers: San Andreas Book Number, or through Daily Globe’s Press Release.

Within the governmental departments, there appears to be a lack of communication with the Public Defender’s Office (PDO), resulting in a decrease in personnel. However, efforts are being made to address and improve this situation. The San Andreas Flight Authority (SAFA) had no announcements regarding their current activities. Meanwhile, DHS has given shelter and assistance to approximately 25-30 clients throughout the city. Their upcoming mental health event is scheduled for the 23rd, demonstrating their continued commitment to those in need. As for the Public Works Department (PW), they recently received 33 applications in their latest hiring round. Currently, the management is diligently reviewing these applications. Additionally, they plan on enhancing their training efforts by expanding training materials and providing more comprehensive guidance to new members of the PW team.

Representatives from the Major Crime Division (MCD) and the Los Santos Police Department (LSPD) were also present and spoke about the latest batch of cadets currently undergoing training. Complaints involving concerns of police brutality, unprofessionalism, and personal incidents of denial of rights were also mentioned, including Jason Tanners’ retelling of the incident with an unnamed officer, who is told to have threatened him with the 9s in prison for failing to identify himself following him being taken hostage and already searched.

Deputy Chief Julie Lee of the LSPD, also one of the heads of Internal Affairs (IA) for the LSPD, handled the initial discourse with multiple attendees, stating, “Internal affairs is not about transparency,” before then continuing to engage in civil conversation and offering several suggestions to improve interactions and transparency with officers with the public and individuals. Members of The Daily Globe and Weazel News teams also spoke briefly with the Deputy Chief after the town hall to further discuss communication opportunities to better share information with the general public.

Near the end of the meeting, State Representative Norman Wren fell to the ground amidst the discussion of police conduct during an arrest of Ivan Sinclair-McFall. Deputy Chief Lee, Assistant Director of MCD Young, and Captain Schultz sprung into action quickly transporting him to the hospital. Lieutenant Governor Damien Key took over the meeting by helping wrap up the discussion and calling a close to the town hall.

State Representative Wren stopped by after visiting Pillbox Medical for treatment wanting to apologize for disrupting the meeting. While he stated he still wasn’t feeling great, Norman let Weazel News know he was planning to rest and recover because he and the rest of the legislature still have work to do.
