UPDATE: It was originally reported there were two vacant seats in the upcoming special election. A recent update to H.R. 340 – A Resolution to Call a Special Election – July 2024 indicates there is an additional, unreported resignation. Stay tuned to Weazel News for updates on this developing story.

The 10th Congress of San Andreas was sworn into office on June 7, 2024 making it less than a month to today since they took office. In a surprising turn of events, State Representative Astra Lillegård-Marino has officially resigned from their position, mentioning personal well-being and mental health concerns as the primary reasons. We wish them well and thank them for their service.

This news comes less than 24 hours after Governor Bright-Starr was arrested on assault, false imprisonment, and threat charges. Additionally, it’s been just over 3 days since the announcement at June 30th’s Town Hall that former State Representative Cassie Kendrick was also resigning. With three State Representative seats now vacant, the upcoming special election promises to be a huge opportunity for those looking to step up to serve their state. Who will take on the challenge? Only time will tell.

Press Release:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Thursday, July 4th, 2024

With a heavy heart, I write to formally announce my resignation from my position as
State Representative in San Andreas, effective immediately. This decision has not
been made lightly, but after careful consideration and reflection, it is the best course
of action for my well-being.

Serving as a State Representative has been an honor. However, the demands and
stresses of the role have significantly affected my mental health. To continue to serve
effectively, I must first prioritize my well-being. The responsibilities of this position
require a level of dedication and energy that I cannot sustain without compromising
my health.

As I step down, I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition. I will actively work to
pass the initiatives and projects I have started to my successors. While I will no longer
serve in an official capacity, I remain passionate about the future of our legislature
and will continue to support its efforts.

I look forward to the upcoming special election and am confident that the next
representative will carry forward the work we have begun. Although my role will
change, my commitment to our community and the values we stand for remains
steadfast. I am open to collaborating with my successors and offering any assistance
or guidance they may need.

Thank you for the support, trust, and encouragement you have provided me during my
time in office. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served and look forward to
contributing to our community in new and meaningful ways.

Warm Regards
Astra Lillegård-Marino
